EVeryone used to complain about the boro's former Code Enforcement Department, but this new guy that they have has already issued more than 250 violations in four months since taking over the job. And apparently, selective enforcement has ended.
Has anyone on Borovent been issued a warning? What's your feelings about Dale Gettel?

I applaud the Borough for contracting this department and the success of Mr. Gettel.
Now....what else can you contract out?
How about your entire accounting/finance department?
How about parking enforcement?
Why not contract with Cumberland Twp. for police services and get rid of your entire PD?
Don't delete me!!!! These are real suggestions.

I always say, "be careful what you wish for, you just may get it".
People wanted enforcement, until they get the notice to change something in their world, then the complaints will fly.
For once, good job Gettysburg Brough for a smart decision.

I need some background here. How does this translate into "good news"?

Code enforcment is needed in the boro ever walk down the side walk and fall flat on your face or trip, this is because the code officer was not doing their job the uneven sidewalk is money in the pocket for the boro and it helps avoid lawsuits . Also the old officer enforced only if she disliked the landowner that is never acceptable , equality and no discrimination should be allowed . I heard a story that when Larry Weikert was the enforcment officer he wrote the Mayor a ticket and told him if the side walk wasnt fixed we would get it fixed and send him the bill that is exactly what wee need .

It does seem to be a strange concept to consider this "good" news ![]()
I think it's "good news" - as in... "the flogging stopped and the wailing has ceased".
The old process was flawed, and the CEOs in charge were vindictive and selective.
The new Code Enforcement procedure is producing the effect that the Ordinances are intended to have.
The purpose of the Ordinance is to have a law that enables the Borough to make the town safer, cleaner, and more livable for the citizens.
By enforcing these laws evenly across the board, the effects are going to be more noticable.
Citing an offender, and allowing them to rectify the situation, is the preferable way to handle violations.
If, as was done in the past, you use the Ordinances to just punish a few landlords, then it was an Abuse of Power, and actually unConstitutional because it was SELECTIVE.
The CEO used to just write a Citation for hundreds of dollars in fines, for seemingly minor infractions.
No warning, no time to fix the violation.
There have evidently been HUNDREDS of Violations Cited... and rectified VOLUNTARILY... without any fines being issued.
People are not always aware of not being in compliance. They are not all criminals. They are not just "trying to screw the Borough".
The former CEOs used to take it personally.
Evidently this new guy is approaching it in a professional manner.
When done fairly, how can there be complaints?
So YES - this IS good news ![]()

Thanks for the background. We always wondered why the sidewalks on Baltimore St leading down to Steinwehr were allowed to be in such bad repair. Several of them were lawsuits waiting to happen.
